South Plains College reaches an important milestone in its history with its 50th year of operation. Celebrating our heritage and the people who have contributed to our success are the themes for the 50th anniversary celebration that will take place from August 2007 to May 2008. Through this celebration, we hope give you the opportunity to reconnect with the college as we honor and recognize alumni, former employees and our community friends.

Aug. 20, 2007    50th Convocation of Faculty and Staff
The 50th year will begin with the annual fall employee breakfast that will celebrate our heritage with a premiere showing of an anniversary video that has been prepared. This event is open only to current SPC employees.


Aug. 23, 2007    Back to School Bash and Street Dance
The Student Life Office is planning a fun-filled event that recalls some of the student traditions that are part of the college’s history. It’s a opportunity to new and returning students to meet new friends and renew last year’s friendships. For more information, contact the Student Activities Office.

 

 

 

Oct. 25, 2007    Scholarship Recognition Banquet
SPC will honor student scholarship and recognize those friends of the college who make scholarship funds available for students. Attendance at this event is by invitation only.

Nov. 9-10, 2007    50th Anniversary Founders and All-College Reunion
Reconnect and recollect at the college’s very first All-College Reunion. The invitation is out to all former SPC students, faculty and staff to join us as we honor those our founders and the college’s original faculty and administration. A campus-wide open house, special luncheon, Texan Basketball Games, recognition dinner and lots of opportunities to remember your college days at SPC are just some of the weekend’s events. Nov. 16, 2007    Miss Caprock Scholarship Pageant
There is a 50th year tradition at SPC that began with the first Caprock Beauties in 1959.  The Miss Caprock Scholarship Pageant will feature a reunion of former Miss Caprock recipients.  For more information, contact the Office of Student Activities.

Nov. 27, 2007    Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony
This will be the 39th annual Tree and Campus Lighting Ceremony that will take place at the front entrance of the Levelland Campus. Thousands of orange and blue lights will adorn campus buildings. Lighted holiday scenes will be scattered through the campus. Holiday music, a chance to visit with Santa and mugs of hot chocolate and cookies make this annual tradition complete.

Feb. 14, 2008    50th SPC Homecoming
The SPC Texans and Lady Texans battle WJCAC rival Odessa College in what will be two exciting basketball games. The SPC Student Body will crown the 2008 Homecoming Queen and King during halftime ceremonies. A special athletic reunion is being planned by the Athletic Department. March 1, 2008    50th Anniversary Gala
SPC will honor and recognize 50 years of community support at a Golden Anniversary Scholarship Gala. An
evening of fine dining and exceptional entertainment will set the stage for recognizing this year’s Pacesetters. SPC will celebrate its heritage and its future at an event that will be most memorable. For ticket information, contact the SPC Development Office.

April, 2008    SPC Community Celebration
The Student Government Association joins the Levelland MainStreet Program and Chamber of Commerce to host an old-fashioned Texan Barbeque Cook-off on the Courthouse Square. An afternoon of entertainment and special recognition of former Student Body Presidents is being planned.

April 16, 2008    Service Club Luncheon
The community’s civic clubs and volunteers will be honored at the annual Service Club Luncheon. Highlight of the day’s program will be the awarding of the Jerry Barton Service Achievement Award to an outstanding community volunteer.

April 28, 2008    SPC Athletic Awards Banquet
Current and past athletic triumphs will be recognized and remembered at the annual Athletic Awards Banquet. The latest inductee into the Texan Hall of Fame will be announced.

May 1, 2008    Student Awards Ceremony
The tradition on honoring student achievement continues with the annual Student Awards Assembly in Texan Dome. Join us for a program that recognizes SPC’s best and brightest student scholars and leaders.

May 8, 2008    Distinguished Alumni Awards Program
South Plains College will recognize a group of alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers and personal lives. The recognition will be part of the college’s annual Employee Recognition Banquet. Nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Award are currently being accepted by the Selection Committee.  For information, contact the Advancement Office.

May 9, 2008    50th Commencement

The Class of 2008 will be recognized as
the 50th class to graduate from SPC.
Special ceremonies will be held in Texan Dome.

 

 

 

Other events planned for spring 2008 will include the Fine Arts Performance Series, the Creative Arts Performance Series as well as celebration events at SPC Reese Center, Byron Martin ATC and Plainview Center.
