The Title V Grant requires that SPC create an “intrusive advising system.” Based on research of current institutional advising policies, a tremendous need to revise our advising system was recognized. Through the faculty advising survey and continued faculty input at Retention Team meetings, it was determined that faculty at SPC desire a stronger voice in advising policy and training. The AMT is modeled after a similar program at Central Piedmont Community College in North Carolina (I-Can Network), which has experienced great success with faculty participation.

The Team will also pave the way for institution-wide exposure to both its representatives and their respective departments’ advising processes.

Responsibilities

      Representatives assist in the coordination of the general advising program at South Plains College. They act as the voice for their department’s advising inquiries and concerns. Each Advisement representative is responsible for disseminating general advising information to the rest of their department.

      The Advisement Management Team will also prepare and present faculty advising orientation and training to faculty advisors, professional advisors, and other campus representatives with an interest in the advising process. The Team will evaluate advising practices and make improvements as needed.
