Security
To ensure that your personal information and South Plains College confidential information remains secure, YOU must ensure that your computer stays secure. Therefore, it is imperative that you keep your computer up to date with the information provided. Computers that are infected, or vulnerable because they have not had critical updates or security patches installed upon them, may be removed from the network until they have been secured.
How can keep my computer safe from now on?
- Do not share passwords.
- Change your password monthly.
- Check for the latest viruses and security information weekly by visiting the OIT web site.
- Install critical MS Office software patches twice a month by visiting: http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates
- Lock out your Windows 2000/XP workstation any time you walk away from your machine. Press CTRL, ALT, DELETE
- Click Lock Computer
- Be wary of all email attachments, even from those you know. Unless you have had prior notification, do not open email attachments you are not expecting.
- Remove/do not install unnecessary programs and/or services.
- Back up your files often.
