Wireless Setup Instructions - Windows XP

South Plains College is happy to offer free wireless internet service to its students in many areas of its campuses.  This document contains configuration instructions so you will be able to setup your wireless ready Windows XP computer.

1.)  Begin by clicking on your START and then click on CONTROL PANEL

2.)  Now that you’re in your control panel located the NETWORK CONNECTIONS icon and double click on it.  You should now have a screen similar to the one seen below:  If you do not see the Network Connections icon, be sure your control is being viewed in classic mode.  The link to do that is on the right hand side of the box. 

Right click on your WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION icon and select properties.   If you have any other programs that is operating the wireless card you must disable it and place a check mark in the box that says USE WINDOWS TO CONFIGURE MY WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS.

3.)  Click on the WIRELESS NETWORKS tab and then click on the ADD button.  In the dialog box that appears please type the information that follows in the corresponding boxes:

Network name (SSID):  SPC (all  upper case)

Network Authentication:  WPA

Data Encryption:  TKIP

Your dialog box should look like the one listed below:

4.)  Now click on the AUTHENTICATION tab.  Under the EAP type select Protected EAP (PEAP).  Also make sure that the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available is NOT check marked. 

5.)  Click on the PROPERTIES button under the EAP type drop down menu.  The next dialog box that appears is titled Protected EAP Properties.  Make sure the box next to VALIDATE SERVER CERTIFICATES is NOT check marked. 

6.)  Now click the Configure button and remove the check mark out of the box next to Automatically Use My Windows Logon Name.

Now you can click OK and close out the properties boxes as well as the other boxes that are now open

Your computer will now display a popup balloon in the system tray with the message “Click here to select a certificate or other credential for connection to the network SPC” as shown below.

Click this balloon to get the Enter Credentials dialog box.

In this dialog box, enter your SPC domain username, password and the domain SPC.  Then, click OK.

When you have successfully entered your logon credentials, you will get a message that you are connected to SPC.  Your logon information will be saved in windows automatically.  You won’t have to enter the information again until your password changes or expires.
