Wireless Setup Instructions - Windows XP (SPC domain member computers)

The Office of Information Technology has begun to deploy High Speed Wireless Internet through parts of its campuses.  In order for users to take advantage of this feature the following instructions are required to configure your Wireless Card.  Please note that these instructions are for computers that are members of the SPC Domain. 

1.)  Begin by clicking on your START and then click on CONTROL PANEL

2.)  Now that you’re in your control panel located the NETWORK CONNECTIONS icon and double click on it.  You should now have a screen similar to the one seen below:  If you do not see the Network Connections icon, be sure your control is being viewed in classic mode.  The link to do that is on the right hand side of the box. 

Right click on your WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION icon and select properties.   If you have any other programs that is operating the wireless card you must disable it and place a check mark in the box that says USE WINDOWS TO CONFIGURE MY WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS.

3.)  Click on the WIRELESS NETWORKS tab and then click on the ADD button.  In the dialog box that appears please type the information that follows in the corresponding boxes: 

  • Network name (SSID):  SPC (all  upper case)
  • Network Authentication:  WPA
  • Data Encryption:  TKIP 

4.)  Now click on the AUTHENTICATION tab.  Under the EAP type select Protected EAP (PEAP).  Also make sure that the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available is check marked. 

5.)  Click on the PROPERTIES button under the EAP type drop down menu.  The next dialog box that appears is titled Protected EAP Properties.  Make sure the box next to VALIDATE SERVER CERTIFICATES is check marked.  Then, under Trusted Root Certification Authorities, scroll down and check “South Plains College CA” 

6.)  Now click the Configure button and make sure the check mark is in the box next to Automatically Use My Windows Logon Name. 

Now you can click OK and close out the properties boxes as well as the other boxes that are now open.

You should now be connected to the SPC wireless network.
