BAB. Duties of the Board (BL)
The Board is specifically empowered to perform these additional duties:
- Appoint the College President, evaluate the President and assist the President in the achievement of performance goals.
- Assume general responsibility for the College, delegating to the President such powers and duties as are necessary and appropriate for the efficient administration of the College.
- Levy and collect taxes and issue bonds.
- Study and pass upon the annual budget prepared by the College President.
- Study and pass upon recommendations of the President for additional capital outlay and determine the means of financing them.
- Confirm the appointment of administrative personnel, faculty and other employees of the institution as recommended by the College President, and approve their salaries and terms of office.
- Select a depository for District funds.
- Pass upon architect’s plans for buildings that have been authorized by the Board and upon the recommendation of the College President.
- Present needs of the college and give active support to them before the public and media.
- Order elections as required by law.
- Act as a body of final appeal for college personnel and the public in cases that may be appealed from the decision of the College President.
- Fill vacancies on the Board created by death or resignation in accordance with laws of the State of Texas.
- Approve fees and tuition in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Act as a fiduciary in the management of funds under the control of the College District subject to the Board’s control and management.
- Receive donations of money, securities, and property on behalf of the institution.
- Hold all rights and titles to the College District properties.
