BMH. Dean of Technical Education
The Dean of Technical Education performs those duties as directed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
1. Prepare an annual calendar of events and due dates for the Technical Education Division.
2. Assist with all registrations. Monitor all class enrollments and make recommendation to the Vice President for Academic Affairs regarding canceling or continuing with the classes.
3. Review enrollment shifts from semester to semester.
4. Evaluate "Teaching Schedules" as submitted by the chairpersons and recommended overloads. Every effort should be made to stay within institutional guidelines.
5. Maintain an up-to-date syllabi file on technical courses.
6. Review chairperson evaluations by faculty and also personally evaluate chairpersons.
7. Hold conferences with chairpersons regarding their faculty evaluations.
8. Participate in all new faculty orientation sessions as requested.
9. Provide leadership for curriculum/program development and revision.
10. Evaluate the need for additional faculty positions, help recruit new faculty and staff, and serve on search committees for individuals being recruited for the Division.
11. Work with departmental chairpersons regarding the need for and hiring of part-time faculty and maintain appropriate records.
12. Recommend probationary faculty and tenured faculty for contract renewal (date determined by Vice President for Academic Affairs).
13. Receive from chairpersons and appropriately recommend to the vice president all faculty rank promotions and tenure.
14. Prepare the Technical Division budget.
15. Administer all programs in the Technical Division.
16. Develop new programs and coordinate advisory boards in the operation of existing programs.
17. Assist in the preparation of contracts, reimbursement requests, quarterly reports and other pertinent reporting required by the Coordinating Board.
18. Serve as a permanent member of the Administrative Council, Academic Council, Admissions Appeals Committee, Instructional Council and other committees as appropriate.
19. Be responsible for ensuring compliance with program standards and accreditation requirements as appropriate.
20. Be responsible for professional development activities.
21. Assume a leadership role in promoting effective teaching.
22. Prepare the annual application for federal funds, including the budget development process (preparation and distribution of budget forms), conduct budget hearings and required public hearings, and coordinate with the Vice Presidents and Provost in the final approval of budget requests.
23. The management, oversight, and preparation of various required reports associated with the administration of specific federal and state grants (interim financial reports, performance reports, etc.).
24. The management, oversight, and performance of the annual federal inventory process, including the development of institutional procedures addressing the use, disposal, and/or disposition of equipment purchased with federal and other grant funds.
25. To be responsible for accounting procedures and processes to support the effective administration of federal and other grant funds.
26. Provide technical assistance to the college community in the development, implementation, and administration of federal and other grant programs.
27. Provide assistance in the administration of policies and procedures with respect to personnel who are employed in support of federal and other grants and formula allocated funds.
