Surgical Assisting
Advanced Technical CertificateThe Advanced Technical Certificate in Surgical Assisting
contains 16 credit hours of coursework and is designed to
provide training in surgical technology functions performed by
a Surgical Assistant. The Surgical Assistant helps the surgeon
carry out safe operative procedures with optimal results for the
patient. The role will vary with the surgical operation, specialty
area and type of facility in which the Surgical Assistant works.
Clinical skills are performed under the direct supervision of a
qualified surgeon. Following successful completion of course
work, the student will be able to apply for licensure as a Surgical
Assistant from the Texas Board of Medical Examiners. This certificate
program is fully accredited by the Commission on the
Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
in cooperation with the Accreditation Review Committee-
