Student / POP Email
Welcome to South Plains College's Student Email Help Page.
MySPC email provides a web interface known as Outlook Web Access or (OWA). This allows you to connect to your e-mail through a web browser like Internet Explorer and view the contents of your e-mail folders, contacts, calendar, etc. You can access SPC email by using the URL: owa.southplainscollege.edu.
Your username is located on Campus Connect under your picture as SPC domain name. Your initial password is your original PIN number for Campus Connect. (Your username will be your first initial, lastname, and last four digits of your STUDENT ID).
Your email address is for example --- jdoe1234@students.southplainscollege.edu

Setting up an email program for POP/SMTP Access
You can setup any POP email cleint to access and download your SPC email directly. Each email client configuration is different. The basic information is as follows:
- POP (incoming) server: pop.southplainscollege.edu
- SMTP (outgoing) server: smtp.southplainscollege.edu
- Incoming and Outgoing username should be your SPC domain name, for example: jdoe1234
- The POP server should be set to require SSL and the port should be set to 995
- The SMTP server should be set to TLS (or SSL in Outlook). The port should remain at 25.
Specific Steps for setting up a POP email account in Outlook 2003
- Add a New Email account >> Tools >> Email Account >> Add a New Email Account >> POP3
- Your Name: "your name"
- E-mail Address: jdoe1234@students.southplainscollege.edu (your SPC email address)
- Incoming mail server: (POP3): pop.southplainscollege.edu
- Outcoming mail server: (SMTP): smtp.southplainscollege.edu
- User Name: jdoe1234 (your SPC domain username)
- Do not check "log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"
- Click more Settings
- Click the Outgoing Server Tab, Check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
- Select use same settings as my incoming mail server
- Click the Advanced Tab
- Check "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" under Incoming server (POP3). The port should change to 995.
- Check "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Outgoing server (SMTP). The port should stay 25.
Specific Steps for setting up a POP email account in Outlook 2007
1. Add a New email account >> Tools -> Account Settings...
2. Click New...
3. Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP and click Next>
4. Check Manually configure server settings at bottom of screen then click Next>
5. Select Internet E-mail then click Next>
6. Complete the information. Account Type is POP3, incoming server is pop.southplainscollege.edu, outgoing mail server (smtp) is barracuda.southplainscollege.edu, User name and password is your MySPC username and password. Be sure Require SPA is *NOT* checked.
6. Click More Settings...
7. Click the Outgoing Server tab, check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication, leave Use same settings as my incoming server selected.
8. Click the Advaced Tab, under Incomig Server, check This Server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). The number next to POP3 should change to 995. Under Outgoing server, change Use the following type of encrypted connection to Auto. Click OK.
9. Back at the Add New Email Account, click Test Account Settings... When you get the successful response, click Close.
10. Click the Next> button, then Finish, then Close.
Specific Steps for setting up a POP email account in Thunderbird 1.5
- Add a new Email account >> Tools >> Account Settings >> Add Account >> Email Account
- Your Name: "your name"
- Email Address: jdoe1234@students.southplainscollege.edu (your SPC email address)
- POP Incoming Server: pop.southplainscollege.edu
- Incoming username: jdoe1234
- Account Name: "anything descriptive" - For example: SPC Student Email
- Finish Adding the Account. Then you must modify some account properties. In the same Tools >> Account settings window, select the Account you just created. Select Server settings under the email account. Select SSL under "user secure connection". Do not check "use secure authentication". The port should change to 995.
- Click outgoing Server (SMTP)
- Select smtp.southplainscollege.edu and click Edit..
- Check "username and password"
- Select TLS under "Use secure connection". The port should remain at 25.
