Wireless Setup Instructions - Mac OS X

SPC Wireless Network: Setup for Mac OS X

 

The following instructions are for setting up Mac OS X to connect to the SPC wireless network. These instructions pertain to Mac OS X version 10.3 (Panther) and 10.4 (Tiger).  Instructions for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) are below.

 

  1. Make sure Airport is turned on.
    If Airport is off, go under the Airport menu and select Turn Airport On.
  2. Under the Airport menu, select Open Internet Connect...
  3. Click on 802.1X in the toolbar.
    If you do not see an 802.1X icon, click on File, then New 802.1x Connection...
    The 802.1x Connection Window will appear.
  4. Under the "Configuration" pull down menu, select Edit Configurations...
  5. Click on the + (plus) button in the lower left-hand corner.
  6. Fill in the displayed fields with the following information:
    1. Description: SPC
    2. Network Port: AirPort If you wish to always be prompted for your username
      and password, skip to step e.
    3. User Name: enter your SPC username
    4. Password: enter your SPC password
    5. Wireless Network: SPC
      (NOTE: If you are near an SPC access point, "SPC" will appear in this pull down menu. Otherwise, type "SPC".)
    6. Authentication: PEAP (NOTE: Only check PEAP)
  7. Click OK to exit the Internet Connect configuration.
  8. Click Connect.
    You may be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect.  Click More info and Select to always accept this certificate.
  9. Click Continue.

Troubleshooting tip: If you receive an "Invalid certificate" message when attempting to connect, make sure you only checked PEAP in step 6f.

 

Instruction for Mac OS X 10.5 (Tiger)

 

1. Click the Airport Menu in the Title Bar

 

 

Select Join Other Network...

 

2. In the Airport Configuration dialog box, enter the Network Name SPC2, select WPA2 Enterprise as the security type, enter your SPC username and password and click Join.

 

 

3. When the Verify Certificate dialog open, click Show Certificate.  Check the box to Always trust the certification then click Continue.

 

 

4. When the 802.1X Authentication dialog box opens again, enter your SPC username and password again.  Click the OK button.

 

 

5.  You will now be connected to the SPC wireless network.  You can verify your connection information by pressing the Option Key on your keyboard and selecting the Airport Menu in the title bar.
